Reading
Throughout this school year, I have grown as a reader in many ways. When looking back on this year in english, I realize that I have read challenging material and understood what I was reading. This prepared me to start choosing more difficult books to read on my own time. The books that I read towards the beginning of year are much different than the books that I am reading now. By reading all different genres of books in class, my vocabulary and understanding of literature has increased greatly. This year, I have read The Heir, Lord of the Flies, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, Purple Hibiscus, The Mysterious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Twilight, and I am currently reading Macbeth. I wrote a reading response blog when I was reading The Heir by Kiera Cass.
Reading Reflection
I am reading the Heir by Kiera Cass. I am close to finishing this book and the book has gotten really interesting. The main character is trying to choose between guys, and still doesn't know if she will shut the selection down after three months. The three month is coming up soon and there are not many guys left. The whole book, she has been set on stopping the selection as soon as she could, but she might have feelings for some of the guys now.

I enjoy the suspense of not knowing what the the main character will decide about her selection process. I like getting to know the boys who are fighting for her, and selecting my personal favorite, and it gets me excited when something good happens to that character. I can't wait to see who is chosen to be the prince and why. This book has been a great read and I'm upset its coming to an end. I am really excited to read the end of this book.
I also wrote a reading response to Purple Hibiscus.
Purple Hibiscus Reading
Purple Hibiscus Reading
Throughout reading the novel Purple Hibiscus, I have realized that it is a difficult read, but it's not hard to understand and comprehend. Though Purple Hibiscus is more challenging than ATDPTI, it is no more challenging than Lord of the Flies. I have found that annotating helps me greatly when it comes to comprehending this novel. Marking the important things that happen in the book makes it easier for me to go back later and talk about it. Annotating has not been hard to keep up with, and I find at least a few things on each page that I feel I should mark.
Something that I find challenging is comprehending the situation in the novel when it comes to unfamiliar African words or rituals. Some of the prayers that the characters say makes me wonder what type of prayer they contain. Papa makes sure that his kids say some of these prayers everyday, so that makes me wonder what he's drawn to in the prayer. I also find some of the African phrases that aren't translated in the book. To solve this problem, I often google the terms, or read further in the book, in which some phrases might be explained later. I am enjoying this novel very much and am excited to see how it ends.
Reading is something that I greatly enjoyed throughout this year, and I hope that it is something that I continue to enjoy in years to follow.
